Expect to utilize your expertise (or quickly become an expert) on issues as broad as the explosion of the Internet of Things, the newest advances in artificial intelligence, how urban and rural living will change when cars are driverless, the ethics of machine-learning algorithms, the pitfalls of Uber and Waymo’s LIDAR technology, five reasons why so-and-so expert is a moron, etc. etc.
You must hunger to go deep in your writing and take risks. You must abhor clickbait that fails to deliver. You must know AP Style, write without error. You must be self-driven, organized, have excellent communication skills and value both the freedom and challenges of working remotely for a startup. Finally, you must be willing to do more than just write stories, including: run email campaigns, copy edit the work of others, help with landing pages, craft press releases, lead other writers and teams, take on special projects, etc.
