Before the standard red-yellow-green traffic lights we’ve come to know and love, traffic lights utilized different symbols and conventions, depending on which community or city installed them. There were traffic lights that went counter-clockwise, ones where yellow meant go, and still others where the actual word “STOP” and “GO” were written on it. In fact, it wasn’t until 1925 when traffic lights were standardized.
